Gusev repurposes a reproduction of the Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, however in this case, he references the old Ukrainian women who defies the Russian invader and bravely challenges him. She confronts the soldier and offers sunflower seeds (the sunflower is a symbol of Ukraine) so ‘sunflowers grown when you die’.
